Mike recently finishing the sound design for the ident to support the promotion of the upcoming feature film, "Dream Finder". The film is currently in pre-production while the team look to source funding for the project.
The recently formed Silver Hound Films recently tasked us with the job of designing the sound for their opening motion graphics branding which will be played during the opening credits of their productions.
Manipulating found sounds and combining sub-bass drones, high end swells and of course modern sound design instruments such Gravity, Mike was able to create a heavy atmosphere and add impacting sounds for the thunder, howles and rain ending the cue abruptly to allow the team to seamlessly flow into their future visuals.
Mike recently worked alongside friend and colleague Emily Jackson to produce the score for Silver Lining Pictures upcoming feature film, Cutting Room, check out results below! W have always loved the idea of collaboration which I guess is a plus point given the crazy deadlines we are gives as composers, It's always interesting to see where something goes when two minds work together.
Mike recently completed the score, sound design and final mix for the short film "Jogger". Here is what he has to say about the project…
Jogger is the second short film produced by Silver Lining Pictures during the summer of 2014 and the second time I have worked with director/actor Matthew Clark (Francis). The film was shot with no dialogue or location sound and as such, I was responsible for producing an original score, sourcing and manipulating foley and adding sound design to the film.
It was amazing to be given the opportunity to work on this project and great experimentation in terms of what difference music and sound can make to a picture. I managed to add dread, atmosphere and fear through the use of music and really bring the film to live in terms of designing the ambience of the forest. I could even control the nature of the first by adding the sounds of crows and ravens during the films dramatic moments and removing them when the first had calmed and the 'evil' had left returning to a more settled atmosphere.
While this film was composed way before Aurora Eclipse Productions existed, we felt given it was Mike’s first film, we should include it! Mike talks about the project below.
I was approached by Matthew Clark who informed me that he was writing and starring in a short horror film and was looking for some original music and a few sounds effects for the film. The brief required an atmospheric orchestral score which would focus on the mood and drama of the picture. Whilst being emotive, the score would need to accompany in a way that would not detract from the visuals or narrative.
While adding ambient sound design elements to accompany the score, I also took on some extra duties to put sonic emphasis on the integral parts of horror within the narrative, for example; during the poem excerpt read by the main characters mother during the ghastly vision sequence, followed by the imaginary swarm of flies which were to chase the main character during the films final dramatic moment.
Meredith Strandquist recently contacted us and asked if we would be interesting in adding sound design to her short animated film, “Æ Har Det Bare Bra” and these were the results. The only sounds provided were the spoken words, all other elements were recorded, sourced and manipulated to create the desired effect.
