Composing: Crazy Woman Got A Gun (Short Film)

Mike recently completed the score for the short film "Crazy Woman Got A Gun" on behalf of AVA - All Visions Align. The short is currently circulating around the festivals ( notably #FilmCon18 and Cinefest in Los Angeles) before putting the project forward for funding in order to facilitate the production of the feature film...

Be sure to keep your eye on the AVA Facebook and Website for updates on the project as well as following the AEPL website.

While the film is currently locked away, for those interested in what Mike composed for the short, check out the soundcloud embed here.

Recording Sound: "You Always Have A Choice" (Short Film)

A couple of weeks back, local upcoming director/producer Steve M. Linez gave us a shout and asked if we would be willing to come on location and give him a hand recording sound for his in-development short film "You Always Have A Choice"... After reading the script, Mike agreed to head over and help out for the day (well originally it was suppose to be half day, but he said he was having so much fun, he stayed for the entire 12 hour shoot). Here are a few photos from the day we figured we would share with you guys...

We are so excited to to hear that Mike’s score for Blanket was nominated for Best Score earlier this month at Views of the World Film & Music Festival in Montreal, Canada.

The final screening version of the film has just been sent off to the festival and from looking at the schedule, it's going to be shown at around 11:30am (Canadian Time | GMT-4) this Sunday (September 25th 2016) with the awards ceremonies starting from 6pm (11pm UK time).

When asked about the film earlier last month Michael W. Bell said “Blanket was a tricky film to write, given the subject matter and minimal dialogue approach, It took me quite a while to discover how to best voice the film musically. Blanket tackles a multitude of emotions including depression, happiness, despair. romance, thriller, suspense, horror and regret. While attempting to keep things minimal and not overpower the film. Thank you to everyone who has supported my on this journey thus far, your continued support means the world to me!”

Some months after announcing the completion of the trailer score, we are pleased to announce that Mike has now finished composing the score for the Silver Lining Pictures produced short film "Blanket".

The movie was filmed in just three days using a DSLR and has been described by producer Louis W. Frost as "A beautifully brutal romantic, story with a dramatic twist that will send your heart racing...".

Louis has kindly given us permission to release the soundtrack ahead of the film release and as such, the full length score is available to buy and stream via all major digital stores.

Silver Lining Pictures are currently submitting the film to film festivals worldwide and we look forward to updating you all once we have more information regarding its exhibition!

Composing: Dream Finder "The Corruption Begins"

Clouded Sight Pictures & De Luca Films recently got in touch and asked us to compose a short cue for the first teaser trailer for their upcoming fantasy feature “Dream Finder”, and this was the result.

Dream Finder is an exciting new new film concept project based on the bestseller fantasy book of the same name by Roger Taylor. The project is currently in the pre-production stage and seeking funding, you can follow the latest test shots, concept art and all news relating to Dream Finder both on the Official Website and Facebook Page (click for links).

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the teaser trailer and I leave you with a snippet of concept art which has been produced for the film.

Composing: Jogger (Short Film)

Mike recently completed the score, sound design and final mix for the short film "Jogger". Here is what he has to say about the project…

Jogger is the second short film produced by Silver Lining Pictures during the summer of 2014 and the second time I have worked with director/actor Matthew Clark (Francis). The film was shot with no dialogue or location sound and as such, I was responsible for producing an original score, sourcing and manipulating foley and adding sound design to the film.

It was amazing to be given the opportunity to work on this project and great experimentation in terms of what difference music and sound can make to a picture. I managed to add dread, atmosphere and fear through the use of music and really bring the film to live in terms of designing the ambience of the forest. I could even control the nature of the first by adding the sounds of crows and ravens during the films dramatic moments and removing them when the first had calmed and the 'evil' had left returning to a more settled atmosphere.

Composing: Francis (Short Film)

While this film was composed way before Aurora Eclipse Productions existed, we felt given it was Mike’s first film, we should include it! Mike talks about the project below.

I was approached by Matthew Clark who informed me that he was writing and starring in a short horror film and was looking for some original music and a few sounds effects for the film. The brief required an atmospheric orchestral score which would focus on the mood and drama of the picture. Whilst being emotive, the score would need to accompany in a way that would not detract from the visuals or narrative.

While adding ambient sound design elements to accompany the score, I also took on some extra duties to put sonic emphasis on the integral parts of horror within the narrative, for example; during the poem excerpt read by the main characters mother during the ghastly vision sequence, followed by the imaginary swarm of flies which were to chase the main character during the films final dramatic moment.

Composing: Local Girl (Short Film)

Mike was contacted by the lovely Eva Marie Wilshere who had been on the look out for a composer to add some romantic/atmospheric music to a scene in her beautifully shot short film, 'Local Girl'. We snapped up the opportunity and collaborated with her to underscore her picture in time for the festivals. Local Girl was shown on a number of nights at the Brighton Media Festival during the summer of 2014.

Composing: Survival (Short Film)

Survival is the first short film produced by Silver Lining Pictures during the summer of 2014 and shot on location in Eastbourne, East Sussex. Mike was luck enough to spend the day with the team during filming before taking on the responsibilities of producing and mixing an original score for the short film.
